Pak inhumanity Grave ménage to Bharat
Dr Mukherji warns Nehru
All Parties Unite Under His Lead

A United demand for quick and firm action by Government of India to ensure, on a permanent basis, the  safety and protection of the minorities in East Pakistan was made at a mass meeting of at least 40,000 people held under the joint auspices of different political parties on the Calcutta maidan on Thursday evening. Dr Syamaprasad Mookerjee presided.

The meeting which lasted three hours and was addressed by more than a dozen representatives of various parties expressed gave concern at the recent mounting exodus of minorities from East Pakistan to West Bengal, Tripura, Assam and Bihar and asked Government of India to put effective pressure upon the Pakistan government and as a first step to-wards this end, to impose economic sanction and cut off all trade relations with Pakistan.

Mahatma Gandhi on Cow- Slaughter

The Prosperity of India depends upon the prosperity of the Cow and its race. If  somebody were to ask me the biggest external manifestation of Hindu Dharma. I would say it is cow-protection. In India cow was the only companion and source of dependence of man. Cow-protection is a blessing that Hindu Dharma has given to the world and Hindu Dharma can live only so long as there are Hindus who would protect the cow. In my view the question of cow-protection sin no way less important than that of Swarajya. In some matters I consider it to be more important.

The meeting appealed to the people of goodwill of Pakistan to assert themselves and put pressure on the government so that it be forced to radically change its policy towards its minorities.
Except the CPI all other non-Congress parties were represented viz, Jan Sangh Bengal Proja Socialist Party, Forward Bloc-Marxist, Forward Bloc-Subhahsist, Bengal Provincial Hindu Mahasabha, Revolutionary Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party of India, Socialist Republican Party, Bolshevik Party, Bengal Volunteers and Sri Ganendra Chandra Bhattacharjee, MLA East Bengal Assembly(now a migrant to India).
Dr Mookerjee’s Address
Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee, in his 35-minute speech, declared that the problem was not communal but political and had to approached from humanitarian considerations. India was not partitioned as a result of war. It was an agreed act intended for solving communal bitterness, but the basic condition was that people belonging to all communities would continue to live in both countries, and would receive the protection of their respective Governments as indeed any civilized Government would be willing to do.
He reminded the gathering of Gandhiji’s declared opinion that it India played her part honorably in this regard and gave full equality and protection to all her citizens irrespective of colour of religion, and if she found that Pakistan failed to carry out her pledge, then there was every justification for the Indian Government to intervene and undertake the responsibility for the safety and protection of the oppressed people in Pakistan.
“Let the Government in our country which swears by the name of the Fatehr of the Nation follow this brave and realistic advice,” Dr Mookerjee said amidst cheers.
Country’s safety at Stake
Dr Mookerjee declared that Pakistan Government’s persistent and deliberate failure in undertaking the responsibility for the safety and protection of the minority people entitled India to examine the whole Problem of partition denovo and proceed to act as any self-respecting nation would do.      n
