Education : Possibilities in Fisheries

Fisheries: There are ample  opportunities today in this field. It is a rising sector. One can witness a drastic transformation in this field in the past decade. Earlier people used to have fishes for merely eating or for  their personal hobbies, but now many Bhartiya and multinational
companies are making huge investments in this field.
There is a great demand of professionals in this field. If one is interested in fisheries, one can have great opportunities in this field. During the course one is trained to test the quality of water and classify fishes accordingly, manage fishing farms and develope high breeds.
Eligibility: One needs more than 55% marks in Biology at 10+2 stage to have an enrolment in graduation degree in the fisheries. One can then have enrolment in Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BFSc.). There are also some short term courses as well.
Opportunities and Salary: There are ample opportunities in fisheries sector to work as an expert with government and corporate firms. One can also start work by getting a loan from the banks. Starting salary may be between 25 to 35 thousands. One can earn in lakhs by having one’s business too.
Institutes: National Bureau of Fish Genetic Researches (Lucknow), Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (West Bengal), G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Rajasthan Agriculture University (Bikaner), Punjab Agriculture University, Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Mumbai), Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (Kochi), etc.
