In the valedictory function of Samatwa Munnetta Yatra, Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam General Secretary Shri Vellappally Natesan launched a new political party, Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), with a motto “Save Kerala and Build Kerala”.

Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam General Secretary Shri Vellapally Natesan’s historic Samatwa Munnetta Yatra culminated in Shanghumukham Beach, Thiruvananthapuram on December 5, 2015. If the public meetings held in the districts in connection with the Yatra were attended by 10 to 20,000 people, the valedictory rally was attended by more than 5 lakhs of people. It was a show of strength of Kerala’s Hindu population, cutting across caste lines, which has been suffering oppression and exploitation at the hands of both the Left and Right Fronts and organised minority powers. As Vellapally had promised prior to and during the Yatra, he declared the formation of a new party during his valedictory address. It is Bharath Dharma Jana Sena. The symbol is folded hands.
The dais was named ‘Samatwa Vedi’ (The platform for unity).  The leaders of all Hindu communities – from Dalits to so-called caste Hindus– occupied the dais.  Speaking on the occasion Vellapally demanded the appointment of a ‘Majority Commission’ to find out poor Hindus cutting across community lines. He alleged that CPI (M) and the Congress showed more enthusiasm in attacking the Yatra than they show in elections. Despite their conspiracies, hundreds of thousands of people thronged the beach to hear Vellapally. He had declared few months before that they would form a new party to fight against the ‘sidelining the majority community’ that has been undergoing. Both the opposition LDF and the ruling UDF have been competing each other to attack Vellapally personally and to tarnish his personal image. Because, both the fronts are worried about the added image and vote share BJP gets due to its well connected rapport with SNDP. The recently concluded local self-governing bodies election proved it very much.
TV Babu, the leader of the Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha, the community organisation of Dalit Pulaya community, told the gathering that his community can no more be oppressed as slaves. Akkeeraman Kalidasa Bhattathiri, leader of the community organisation of the Namboothiri Brahmins (Kerala Brahmins), told that the new party had been launched during the auspicious Sabarimala pilgrimage period. All other leaders of community organisations who had participated in the Yatra addressed the rally. The motto of the new party is “Save Kerala and Build Kerala”. Vellapally had dared the government to arrest him during the Yatra. And FIR has been registered, under IPC 153 (A) against Vellapally for this alleged hate speech against minorities.
Now, the government is in a dilemma: to arrest Vellapally or not to arrest Vellapally! The people at the helm know that it will cost them a lot if they arrest him now. But, since the FIR is registered they do know how to handle it now. People believe that the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala went ahead with FIR for pleasing KPPC chief VM Sudheeran, Rahul’s nominee to the top post of the state party unit. Sudheeran is known for his adamant positions he holds despite the mood in the party.
The new party will be a natural ally of BJP. If it moves in those directions, the assembly elections of April will pave the way for BJP’s entry into the State Assembly House.  That is what both the LDF and the UDF are worried about. Whenever Hindus move in the direction of unity, both the Congress and the CPI (M) go for a truce and join hands to fight ‘Hindu fascists’, their declared common enemy. After the recently concluded local self governing bodies elections, both the fronts joined hands in Palakkad and Thripunithura municipalities where BJP is the ruling party and principal opposition party respectively. Shameless LDF-UDF alliance results in creating troubles for the BJP’s smooth parliamentary designs in several places including Kasaragod.                                                    —T Satisan
