Sadhana of  Service

Jagtial is a small town in the district of Karimnagar. Before coming into fame in the print and electronic media for the exemplary work done by Seva Bharati, it was a socially and economically backward area. So a home for the children from poor family background and catering to first generation literates was the need of the hour.

Inspiration
Swami Dayanand visualised a scheme of education also called Gurukula where all children of the society –irrespective of their birth, caste or creed should be admitted, where each and every child should get the same kind of food, uniform and the same kind of treatment. We should form a nucleus of a
socialistic pattern of society in which all should be treated on an equal footing.

Quick Take

  • Five among the intimates completed BTech , three MBA’s, four Bachelor degree in Education and three in Bachelor of Pharmacy.
  • Many got jobs on their own merit including a government doctor who is now working at District General Hospital.
  • Many of the intimates adopted nearby villages of the town on an Adult literacy and child welfare programme.

Initiative
The Seva Bharati in 1992 under the leadership of then Zilla Sanghachalak Dr Janardhan took a four roomed quarter on rent from irrigation site and with strength of 8 its journey began. Under its guidance a residential hostel is run that has the strength of around 40.This is exclusively for students of Harijanwadas and most are financially poor unable to bear the cost of higher education. Students are generally admitted from class second to fifth into the hostel and trained up with the financial assistance of Seva Bharati till they get placement and many got jobs in government.

Impact
This exemplary work has attracted attention of many and donors came forward to be part of this missionary work. Battu Kishan Rao, a Non-resident Bharateeya and others from Boston US donated five lakhs for the permanent building and welfare activities. Most of the intimates are invited by local residents on the days of festivities apparently to make sure that they do not feel lonely. Many of the intimates adopted nearby villages of the town on an adult literacy and child welfare programme. There was a reunion of 55 of its intimates recently that included Zilla Pracharak Shri Mallesham who took shelter there all his life. It is said that the education should lay emphasis on the notion that in the field of education that a child should at no stage feel cut off from the family or society. The discipline inculcated by Seva Bharati should bring good results by transforming the whole society.
—N Nagaraja Rao
