Intro: Kerala Government has been engineering the pro-minorities politics at the cost of Hindus. But the Governor’s stand not to appoint a Christian camouflaged as Dalit consoles them a bit.

Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam has returned the government proposal to appoint Saju George as the Secretary of Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). He has sent the proposal back to the CM’s office seeking more details. Significantly, KPSC vigilance has been enquiring into the missing of the appointment documents of Saju George. He had been appointed under the special recruitment programme for Scheduled castes. CM Oommen Chandy had told that recommendations for his elevation were finalised after looking into the complaints against the appointment.
Hindu organisations in general and Sangh Parivar organisations in particular have been protesting against the biased action of the government. Addressing a press conference, BJP State General Secretary AN Radhakrishnan had protested against the minority appeasement of the State government. Later on he sent a letter to the Governor explaining the wrong steps of the government.
Story goes like this. While anti-Sangh Parivar forces were shouting on top of their voice against Ghar Vapsi, here in this part of the country, KPSC dumped the secular government’s existing rule, just for the sake of giving a cushy and glamorous job to a Church’s blue eyed boy. The position in question was that of the Secretary of KPSC.
Formerly Tehsildars used to be the competent authorities to issue caste certificates to members of OBCs, SCs and STs. Since the allegations came up against the issuance of these certificates to OBCs and Christians picturing them as SCs and STs, few decades before the government brought alternative measures.
The new government order cancelled the Tehsildars’ powers to issue caste certificates to SCs and STs. Harijan Welfare Director (HWD) was made the sole authority to issue such certificates. The applications coming before the Tehsildars were supposed to be passed to the HWD.
Afterwards, PSC took an unusual step and issued a notification authorising Tehsildars to issue cast certificates to those ST members who embraced Christianity. Tehsildars give certificates if Church recommends.
Now, several undeserving candidates find place in the rank lists of KPSC. KPSC issued this notification in 1996.
Apples of eyes of the top brass of PSC and influential political leaders have been the beneficiaries under the new order. It is alleged that the circular was issued for the sake of a candidate who was very close to some top PSC officials.
The notification helped him to bag a clerical job in PSC.Later on he got several promotions. It is again alleged that even though he was recruited as a ‘Mala Arayan’ (ST) member, his certificates and other documents show CSI Christian as his community.
Hindu organisations were all angry against the whole government machinery for engineering the pro-minorities stand at the cost of Hindus. But, they were skeptic, thanks to the minority appeasement politics being practised by both Congress-led ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) and CPM-led Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF). But, the Governor’s stand consoles them a bit; now all eyes are on State government’s reaction.
Sangh Parivar activist EN Nandakumar told to Organiser that, KPSC does not have any sort of power to nullify a government order. Hindus does suffer under this system. So, now it is the turn of the government to act.
NK Neelankantan Master, President of Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha had told Organiser that the people who come forward to embrace Hinduism are warm welcome. But, at the same time there should be proper vigilance about the Christian designs to permit Dalit Christians to embrace Hinduism for the sake of the benefits of SCs/STs and on the other hand following the Christian rituals, etc.
It is believed that hundreds of fake SC and ST members got government jobs through the aforementioned back doors.
