‘State: Vigil’ Acknowledging Literature

Intro: Veerendra Kumar and CK Menon have been awarded by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy with ‘Sargashreshta and Sargaseva Awards’ by Vigil Human Rights organisation.

Recently, ‘Sargavsantham 2014’, an award evening programme was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy in Thiruvanathapuram. Sargashreshta and Sargaseva Awards were given to MP Veerendra Kumar and CK Menon. Veerendra Kumar is the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD of one of the famous Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi and CK Menon is a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman. The awards were given by the Vigil Human Rights, Kerala.
MP Veerendra Kumar is a renowned writer in Malayalam literature with having lots of best-seller books on his account. His latest fast seller travelogue, Danube Sakshi was highly appreciated by an expert of the screening committee of the awards. CK Menon has been in news for his philanthropic activities for the sidelined and downtrodden society. He is instrumental for releasing several innocent Indians from the prisons of Gulf countries. He is picking up the tabs for the Sponsored Books Scheme of Vigil. The scheme is meant for publishing books of maiden writers who do not have favourable conditions or financial support to publish their books. The scheme has been praised and applauded all over the State.

Seminar on International Trade

A unique seminar was organised under the joint auspices of the Kerala chapter of Hindusthan Samachar (HSK) and Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Cochin (ICCI) in Kochi. The subject was ‘Importance of International Trade in the Growth of Indian Economy’. The seminar was inaugurated by Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) MoS (I/c) for Commerce & Industry, Corporate Affairs and Finance on September 27 in Kochi.
Sitharaman, in her key note address, called on the business magnets to develop traditional sector and increase the production. She emphasised that others should not grab the country’s intellectual property through patents under the camouflage of globalisation. The minister stated that the boost in agricultural sector would create more job opportunities. Production sector should grow too. India’s share in the International trade should grow. It was 1.77 per cent in 2008. It should cross 3.5 in 2014. Export should grow for achieving this target, she said.
AA Abdul Aziz, President of the ICCI presided over the meeting. HSK President NS Rammohan; Hindustan Samachar Rashtriya Prabhari LN Bhalla; Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Pranth Sahakaryavah PN Eshwaran; HSK Bureau Chief Suresh Unnithan; BJP Kerala State President V Muraleedharan and ICCI former president Bharat Khonna were also present on the occassion. V Muraleedhran and BJP general secretary MT Ramesh participated in the session.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in his inaugural address praised Vigil and its Sponsored Books Scheme. He also praised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Member Advocate PS Sreedharan Pillai, the Founder and General Secretary of Vigil Human Rights. State President Justice (Retd) K Padmanabhan Nair presided over the majestic function and Adv Sreedharan Pillai delivered the introductory speech. Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader O Rajagopal who is also Deputy Editor of Janmabhumi a Malayalam daily and Books Selection Committee Convener K Mohandas made the felicitation speeches.                                         — T Satisan from Kochi
