This Vijayadashami was different. Media men from 14 media organisations including the BBC, ‘Sabse Tez’ Aaaj Tak, CNN-IBN, IBN7, Doordarshan, India TV, Sadhana TV, TV9, Zee TV, all channels of E TV, and many others were seen armed with their cameras to shoot the function and the speech of the RSS chief.
Their intention was to catch any message politically loaded that might come from the chief of the most powerful organisation of the country. But they were sure to get disappointed as there was no political message, but there was certainly a direction for the future and instructions for the society about the role it has to perform in transforming the nation along with the efforts by the government.
“It would be wrong to assume that the government has a magic wand that would bring about the desired change and transformation all of a sudden,” the RSS chief said reminding the society of its duties and obligations.
Direct telecast of the function on DD already caused flutter among the intellectuals and political circles that is avers to BJP and RSS ideology. Historian Ramchandra Guha and Congress leaders have taken strong objection to DD telecasting the RSS function.
On the social media horizon too, the RSS function dominated the scene. Direct web streaming of the function was done on 20 websites. This was available in 88 countries and over one lakh viewers spread across these countries worldwide witnessed this mega event in the history of RSS.
Similarly on Twitter trending the RSS function was among the top three tweets between 8 am to 1o am indicating larger participation of tweeples. It may be noted that the RSS has launched its own twitter handle #RSSVijayadashmi on which all these tweets were twitted.
Facebook is another powerful social media used for projecting the function. Nearly, 40 facebook communities involving over 200,000 members participated in this sharing of news, videos and photos of the function at Reshambag ground.
