Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi electrified 20,000 strong American Indians at Madison Square Garden, New York (NY) with his motivating speech. He not only won the heads and hearts in America but also glued NRIs ( Non Resident Indians ) & PIOs ( People of Indian Origin ) worldwide, claimed Global Convenor BJP Overseas Affairs Vijay Jolly at the New York program.
All major TV channels covered it live for worldwide audience, he said.
American Indians repeatedly cheered 125 times during Indian PM Modi’s speech from a rotating stage at MSG.” It was really a historic moment. First time after Indian Independence, an Indian PM addressed such a massive-cheering crowd at a big sporting mega-stadium on overseas shores stated BJP leader Jolly.
Thousands cheered while India's new Prime Minister took on “rock- star” status wrote widely read popular English paper USA TODAY stated Jolly who specially flew from India to be a part of this massive and historic NAMO program in New York. Large electronic display board screens at famous Times Square also showed the “Modi-Modi” chants of young and old including women clad in colorful saris and western dresses.
Modi addressed the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi in NY on Saturday, September 27. And again on Sunday, September 28, he gave a sterling performance and spoke in spell bound Hindi language at the Indian American Community Foundation program in MSG. This public program was organised before his meeting with US President Barack Obama at White House in Washington D.C.
Modi began his speech by saying that India was evolving fast. He said that it is no more a nation of snake charmers but people who are running the world using a ‘mouse’. He assured the gathering that he was a leader of the common man. He invoked the father of the nation and said just as Mahatma Gandhi made the freedom struggle a national movement, he wanted everyone to take the agenda of development with equal seriousness. Modi assured the gathering that this was going to be Asia’s century and that India would be at the forefront of it. To execute this dream, he spoke about a three-pronged strategy which would focus on democracy, demographic dividend and demand.Talking about democracy, Modi said, it is India’s biggest strength. On demographic dividend he said, “65% of India’s population is under that age of 35.” This available work force would take India places.
Post the speech, in the evening there was a star studded gala dinner for specially invited 500 Indian American guests at Taj Hotel. It was organised by Indian Ambassador Dr S. Jaishankar, and the attendees were Indian business tycoons and prominent US Congressmen Edward Royce, Tulsi Gabbard, Cinthia Lumis and others. Candidly put, it was a historic day in modern day world politics.
Nearly 40 prominent US Senators, Congressmen, Congresswomen and other dignitaries including Foreign Minister of India Sushma Swaraj, BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav besides Vijay Jolly Global Convenor BJP Overseas Affairs, Sadhvi Ritambara of Vatasalya Gram-Mathura Vrindavan,Swami Chidanand Saraswati, President Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh and Singapore’s prominent NRI Industrialist Dr B.K.Modi graced the occasion. A large contingent of responsive Bora Muslim brothers and sisters repeatedly cheered Indian Prime Minister during his one hour and thirty minutes long speech.
