Journey from a Salesman to Phalanthropist?
Among the noted entrepreneurs, who made it big in Hyderabad is Shyam Jumani. Born in Karachi (now in Pakistan) he sorrowfully recalls how they landed along with his parents in a ship called ‘Shirala’. The ship departed from Karachi on September 12, 1947 and reached Bombay on September 16, 1947. This nightmarish experience was too terrible to his parents and regrets the very partition that invited chaos and human tragedy which is unparallel in history of mankind.
After graduating in Arts, he did Law from Mumbai and joined Hindustan Lever as Salesman on a meager salary of Rs 200 per month. His marketing expertise drove him to join “Joy Ice Creams” in 1969 as an executive in management cadre and rose to become a Franchisee Director. He set up more than 20 plants all over the country.
He parted ways with company of Joy and set up his own brand ‘Jumani’ in 1990 and became a member of the international Ice Cream Association, Washington DC and also Ice Cream Alliance London, UK. He now offers technical knowhow to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Awarded with Sindhu Ratna by Sindhi Association of South India, he strongly feels Sindhis do hold a key to world peace and prosperity. He also produced a movie ‘Jai Jhulelal’, which was extensively shot in Sind Pakistan, which was released by Shri LK Advani in New Delhi. He is also an editorial member of the monthly Sindhi Chronicle, which is quite popular in the Sindhi Community all over India. Do your karma, duty and leave rest to the God, he says philosophically.
