Senior worker of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) and former Sanghachalak of HSS East Africa, Iqbal Rai Datta passed away on January 11 at Ilford, UK. He was 96.
He served as Sanghachalak of East Africa for a number of years before migrating to UK for settlement in 1991. He was a pillar of Sangh work in East Africa, especially Kenya, Uganada and Tanzania. He travelled widely throughout East Africa for promoting Sangh work and gave immense courage and inspiration to numerous swayamsevaks who came in his contact. Iqbalji was instrumental in the establishment of Hindu Council of Kenya in early 1970’s, an umbrella body of over 100 institutions.
A condolence meeting was held at Deendayal Bhavan, Nairobi on January 19, where Shri Swaran Varma, Chairman Hindu Council of Kenya, Shri Navinbhai Shah, HSS Sanghachalak Kenya and many others paid homage.
