Despite Maoists threat in several sensitive constituen-cies of Bastar, people queued up in large numbers to cast their votes. The presence of over 56,000 troops foiled Maoist efforts to disrupt elections. In the first phase, which underwent polling in the Maoist-affected Bastar region, there was over 60 per cent voting. This is viewed as victory of democracy and faith in development of the common masses of Chhattisgarh.
