Maharashtra state, which is known for its culture and tradition, now is identified as one of the most unsecured lands for  women, especially the Mumbai city. Recent incidents are proof of this situation. In previous week, a Mumbai based 22-year old photo journalist was gang raped. Mumbai police have arrested all five accused, but the questions on security of women in the state are still unanswered. Crimes against women are increasing day-by-day in the state.

According to National Crime Records Bureau Report (2012), 825 cases were pending at the end of the year. 1839 cases were reported under section 376 IPC and 12798 cases were pending trial from the previous year. 1616 cases were  sent for trial during the year. Total cases of trial during the year were14414. Cases in which trial is complete  are 1018. Only in 164 cases the accused were convicted. Finally, 13388 cases were pending at the end of the year. This statistics clearly shows the lengthy procedure of our investigation and judicial process. All we know that the late justice is equal to injustice. So, in this situation it will only weaken the trust of people in system.
