Nationwide protest against Chinese incursion warns the UPA
The third flag meeting between India and China over Chinese incursion in Ladakh also concluded inconclusive on April 30. India rejected a Chinese suggestion that both sides should shift their troops now engaged in the stand-off as the first step to ease tension. China also pressed upon increasing the gap between the two troops at the face-off site in Depsang Valley. But India turned it down and sought unconditional withdrawal of Chinese troops to the position held by them across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on April 15. It was the day when the Chinese came 19 kms inside Ladakh and set up tented posts.
India also drew the attention of Chinese officials to the 2005 protocol on border signed by the two countries which stipulated that the intruding patrol will immediately return when shown a banner by the other side pointing out that it is their territory, sources said here. Two earlier flag meetings on the issue last week had failed to yield any outcome. Even if the BJP and some other opposition parties are asking the Government not to send Salman Khurshid to Beijing, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid seems not ready to cancel his proposed trip on May 20.
Meanwhile, the Chinese incursion has received sharp protest from various organisations. The Hindu Manch activists staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on April 29 and urged the Government to give a befitting reply to China over the incursion. Addressing the workers RSS national executive member Shri Indresh Kumar warned India against the evil designs of China. Hindu Manch president Shri Anil Tripathi and general secretary Shri Suraj Kumar also addressed the workers. They appealed to the people to burn and boycott the Chinese goods.
Launching a nationwide protest, the ABVP activists burnt the effigy of Chinese government and its flag in Delhi University on April 28. The ABVP termed the incursion as an assault on the sovereignty of India.
FINS activists also organised a massive protest at Jantar Mantar on May 1 against the Chinese incursion. They demanded action on the part of the Government of India to retrieve the territorial integrity of India.
