1DELHI unit of Rashtra Sevika Samiti felicitated several women of Delhi for their exemplary courage and service to the deprived people of the society. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Smt Sushma Swaraj and former Pramukh Sanchalika of the Samiti Pramilatai Medhe honoured the women. The Puraskars were distributed on the birthday of Samiti’s first Pracharika, the late Sindhutai, on March 31. The Puraskars consists of a shawl, coconut, memento and cash prize of Rs 10,000 to each.

The first Puraskar was presented to Smt Shalini Tomar for her outstanding courage, which she displayed on May 7, 2012 when her nine year old daughter was abducted and despite getting injuries she safely got her released. Second Puraskar was presented to Sushri Shikha Rana for winning two gold and two silver medals in kabaddi at national level. She is also a member of the national Rubgi team, where too she has won two gold medals.
The third Puraskar was presented to the late Major Dr Ashwini Karnya, who had sacrificed his life, while serving the injured soldiers in the war of 1987 in Sri Lanka. He saved the lives of many soldiers. His mother received the Puraskar.

The late Indutai Patwardhan was honoured for her exemplary social work done under the banner of Rashtra Sevika Samiti. She was associated with many developmental projects. Her daughter-in-law received the Puraskar. Similarly, two professors of Physics in Kalinidi College of Delhi University, Dr Savita Rai and Dr Punita Verma along with their ten students, were also honoured. They were honoured for their outstanding work in the field of science.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt Sushma Swaraj said women are no more inferior than the men and they have performed excellently in different fields. Pramilatai Medhe said those who are misguided in the society should have to be brought on right path by the women. (FOC)
