BJP”s victory in Goa shows that its base in South is getting stronger?

R Guru Prasad from Bengaluru

$img_titleKarnataka’s neighbouring state Goa again has a BJP Government following its landmark victory by winning 21 seats out of 28 seats it contested. Congress, which ruled the state, performed so badly that its candidates won  only nine seats out of 33 seats. The news of BJP Government in Goa has inspired  the leaders, volunteers and well-wishers of the BJP in the Southern states  like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to work hard to ensure BJP’s victory in the future elections.

Karnataka BJP Government is silently initiating  developmental works  in all the areas where common man can live peacefully. Government’s activity  is  impressing   people of other Southern states as well. For example, Karnataka Government wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office to consider the development of Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and extend it further up to Belgaum or up to Mangalore.

The highway connecting Mangalore from  Bangalore  was redone and  there is a considerable   saving in travelling time and fuel.

Right to services Act “Sakala”, a government’s ambitious programme to provide various services to citizens within stipulated time, was launched on March 1. Including departments like Commercial Taxes, Education, Food and civil supplies, Health and Family welfare, Home, Revenue and Transport, RDPR, 151 services have been brought under the ambit of this system.

With a  determination to build an effective and efficient system to identify and cancel illegal LPG connections in the state, the State Government initiated a unique exercise of linking of LPG consumers numbers to electricity meter numbers thus stopping the supply to 20 lakh illegal  connections. The net saving to the Government of India because of this massive exercise undertaken by the State Government would be around Rs 100 crore per month.

In the wake of recent  attack on mediapersons by lawyers, State Government is successful in defusing the tension between judiciary and media by arranging a high level meeting and offering a peace formula.

Despite the prestigious byelection in Udupi-Chikmagalur parliament constituency, Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda  spent a whole day in Mumbai  for the one-on-one meeting  with industrialists at Taj Mahal Palace hotel and  participated in the “Global Investors Meet-2012- Mumbai Road Show”, organised by Department of Commerce and Industries on March 7. It ndicates that development is the first priority for the Government. After becoming the Chief Minister, Sadanada Gowda resigned his Lok Sabha seat  from the Udupi-Chikmagalur and winning this for BJP has become a prestige issue. The BJP has fielded  State BJP Yuva Morcha president V Sunil Kumar as its  candidate to the byelection which is scheduled on March 18.?
