Government’s double standards in social site censorship—Dr Pravin Togadia?

Commenting on the Central government’s abrupt intervention in the internet content on a few social networking and email sites, VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia said when the common man does not get any forum to express his genuine anger he turns to the open-to-all social networking sites. While voting, the aam aadmi has no much choice; in public forums he is never heard and on the media he has very limited say. Then the aam aadmi turns to the internet and now this government wishes to curtain his expression as well using the false boogie of religious sentiments.

“In the name of Freedom of Expression and Creativity, Hindus have always been hurt and when they complain, they are victimised. When Hindu Gods and Goddesses are portrayed in the dirtiest ways, this government ridicules Hindus. Now for their vote bank politics suddenly they decide to censor or reign in social networking sites. This is only being done to appease minorities due to the recent postings on the net and ensuing incident aftermath. Therefore, Hindus do not have trust in this government’s intentions however much the Telecom Minister claimed that they had done it to prevent insinuating religious images from appearing on the public domain. When this Government means religion, they mean only minority and it has been evident umpteen times,” Dr Togadia said in a statement issued on December 6.
