Youth tied,  beaten,  stoned to death

By S Chandrasekhar

in a brutal savagery, reminding us of Taliban way of  executions in Afganistan, a Muslim youth was tied to an electric pole, beaten with sticks and stoned on November 9, succumbed to his brutal injuries. The incident took place at Kodiyathur, Mukkom, 30 Kms from Kozhikode, Kerala. Shahid Baba (26) who was working in the Gulf had come home on leave. Alleging that Shahid was having immoral relations with the married woman, a fifteen member local jehadi group, attacked him, tied him to an electric pole and beat him with sticks and stoned him. His and the family’s pleas fell on deaf ears. Local people who came to help him were threatened, as also the local police. The jehadis for three hours, prevented the locals and police from helping him or taking him to hospital. They fled only after a huge police party arrived.

The half-dead Shahid was shifted to a hospital, but he died four days later due to head injury and blood loss.
Due to public outcry, police have arrested five persons and murder case has been registered against fifteen persons.

Only a year back the right hand of a Christian professor was cut for including the Prophet’s name in an exam question paper.

The BJP has expressed strong concern at the increasing trend of Talibanisation of Kerala’s society.
