Flood relief by Uttkala Bipanna Sahayata Samiti

UttkalA Bipanna Sahayata Samiti conducted a massive relief operation during the recent floods in Odisha. The Samiti workers actively worked in 205 villages of 36 different blocks situated in 12 districts affected by the floods. Around 54,000 flood victims were served cooked and dry food and were also supplied around 85,000 pouches of water. Apart from it articles of daily use like candles, match boxes and even cow feed were also distributed. Sanitation activities were carried out at 21 different places.

According to reports, more than 450 volunteers worked day and night for over two weeks among the affected people in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, Angul, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts. More than 3,500 people were provided health services. A team of seven doctors and seven paramedical staff is still working in the affected areas of Kendrapada and Jajpur districts.

In the ensuing days, the Samiti has chalked out a plan to provide health and sanitation services on priority basis as quick fix against the after-effect of the flood. Distribution of clothes to the needy will also be carried out on the priority basis. In the long run, the Samiti has planned to provide study materials to the needy students and to promote animal husbandry among the rural folks.           (FOC)
