The carriers of a new vision

What was once a big thing to have them even in one or twos, now the places are getting scarce for their accommodations! What good will all these hordes of engineers do for the country and, least of all, for themselves too?, told me my neighbour, living next to my house, in a locality which is virtually invaded by the students belonging to the engineering colleges, which have, of course, come up like mushroom in the town in the recent years.
Whatever they will do, will do better than our generation, I answered, tersely.
Eh….will do better than our generation?, asked the neighbour, giving me a puzzled look.
These engineers, I began to explain my point, are at least far better than the crowd of non-technical educated youths of our time, who were utter devoid of creative sprit, knowing not beyond somehow grabbing a government job. Just remember, how for all that we ( B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. graduates) were advised to do the course of typing or, at the most, stenography—as if for its progress anything country needed then it was the typist and stenographer babus(clerks).
And the one, I further added, who was considered to be an outstanding among us, then on his target were the IAS, PCS, Banking or such other services . One, apart from all this, could also be a good scientist, industrialist, businessman, or a farmer, whom country really needs, no such was the thinking there, nor was it possible from that education. One was considered to be unemployed till he got to have been government employee. But so is not the case today, owing to these private institutions running technical and such other professional courses. It is because of them Ambanis, Mittals and the likes are the role-models of our youths, the thing once alien in our time. These institutions have thus broadened the vision of the youths. As for the career the choice for them is varied; and limit, open. They can think of going abroad. For the jobs they have no longer to look at the face of govt.’
Rightly said, we used to learn one thing, and do other, sheer regardless of our qualifications. Now, these youths know too well what they have to do in future from the very day they enter the college. So said my neighbour, in affirmation, sinking into the thoughts—perhaps, the memories of yesteryears, of his youth, had begun to possess him.?
