THE author, co-founder of MindTree Consulting and ranked among India’s 15 most influential business persons by Business Today, has brought out this book which provides some tips on how to become a high-performance entrepreneur and set up an enterprise, which is most urgently needed in a country like India where its teeming millions need a job to earn their livelihood.
This book is not about how to start a company, but how to start a company that has the potential to become a high performance organisation. According to an American economist, David Birch, high-potential companies or ‘gazelles’ accounted for 70 per cent of job growth in the United States between 1992 and 1996 and seven out of 10 new jobs were created by small, high-potential firms in Sweden.
The author says that the most important aspect of entrepreneurship is its capacity to create jobs or large-scale job opportunities and thus create great wealth, not just for themselves but for others too. Often they use the power of wealth to build a legacy for society at large, for instance in the USA, a huge amount of personal wealth is donated by entrepreneurs for building a great educational system. Without their support, some of the greatest institutes meant for protecting the world’s heritage, arts and literature would have never come up.
The author adds an interesting chapter recounting the systems and values which have made Indian IT companies on par with the best in the world.
On reading this book one feels that setting up a business is hard, but becoming a high-performance entrepreneur is harder still.
