WHEN he was a young boy, Sri Krishna found a fruit-seller selling all kinds of fruits. Seeing these mouth-watering fresh fruits, Sri Krishna wanted to eat some of them. Telling the fruit-seller, “Sir, can you wait for a few seconds? I shall get you the price of your fruit,” he rushed inside and bought out a sack of grain to exchange for the fruits with the fruit-seller.

In ancient times there was no trading done with money as it has not yet come into being. Instead, the system of trade was called barter where one person exchanged his goods with another’s goods of the same value or of more or less value provided it suited them both.

On seeing the young boy Sri Krishna come out dragging a sack of grain, the fruit-seller was very pleased and gave him the choicest of fruits to eat. As Sri Krishna began to eat one fruit, the fruit-seller turned to his cart to go. All of a sudden, he noticed that his fruits were no longer there but instead his cart was filled with gold and precious jewels. He was thrilled to see the sight and went home, singing praise of Sri Krishna. He had realised that he had given his fruits to none other than a Supreme being and that could be God himself.
