CHANDRA Shekhar’s new book provides a comprehensive description of the various facets of our mind and its relationship with brain, soul and body. He writes about the systems of the human body and their organs, the systems of being and their faculties, their interrelationship, the science of thoughts and emotions, and advocates the primacy of positive thoughts and emotions as sources of well being and success. He suggests a variety of methods and techniques for controlling the mind, and dwells on the science of memory and the laws that govern it.
Shekhar also writes about the things that harm our mind. He discusses the baneful effect of stress on our mind, its different types and levels, and ways of managing it. He suggests that it is better to eliminate it through attitudinal changes and effective controls, especially by controlling anger, and by learning problem solving techniques. All this might sound like traversing a path well covered by writers who have written about improving our thinking and confidence, like Dale Carnegie and Napoleon Hill, but Shekhar is very different from them. On the basis of his personal experience, he advocates the use of Ragyoga meditation and various yogasanas as potent sources of transforming our body and soul.
The most noticeable feature of the book is its overall presentation. Chandra Shekhar combines a lot of scientific information with what he has learnt from his own culture and presents it in a simple and easily understandable language. The book should be useful to all those who want a sound body and mind to lead healthy and peaceful lives.
