SOMEONE is eliminating those who are out to wreck Marianna’s life. She is engaged to be married to a well-doing horse trainer Simon Waterford. Marianna has a past life that Simon is not aware of.

The novel Deadly Finish by John Francome is a fine thriller, the story moving at a fast pace keeping with the horse races which are intertwined into the plot.

When Marianna finally thought she had buried her past and was looking forward to her marriage and domesticity with Simon, her first trouble comes in the form of Simon’s uncle Geoff, who has a full dossier on her. He is killed in a brawl in train, in front of Marianna. Then comes the trouble from one of her former clients who threatens to spill all unless she persuades Simon to part with 1.5 million dollars for a horse. He also gets killed. Then Marianna gets a letter from her estranged half sister, desiring reconciliation. Though she is initially reluctant, she agrees. Marianna is abducted by her sister and her collaborator, who turns out to be the killer of uncle Geoff. They demand a ransom from Simon.

By now Simon knows the truth about Marianna. Does he pay the ransom and what is the truth about his fiancée? Is she party to all the crimes that happened after her entry into his life. He wants to hear the answer from her. The evidences are all against her. The novel is a good read, sustaining interest and suspense till the end.
