was held at GD Birla Auditorium in Kolkata on June 28. A play, Kab Aaoge Ram, directed by noted musician Shri Rajendra Jain, was also staged on the occasion. Addressing the gathering Shri Tarun Vijay, director of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, remarked if there was an Ekal Vidyalaya in Lalgarh there would have been no need of any police action as took place there recently. He said the misrule of left front government was responsible for the Lalgarh episode because the marginal tribal people of the area are devoid of development there. Shri Dharamchand Agarwal, president of Vanbandhu Parishad, Kolkata, presented the activity report of the Parishad and pointed out that the Parishad runs 29,000 single teacher schools with eight lakh students across the country. The educational standard of these schools is better than the government run schools. He said by the year 2011, Ekal Vidyalayas would reach in at least one lakh villages of the country. Fifteen big centres will be functioning in near future including one in Maldah of West Bengal. One of such centres is functioning well with full swing at Karanza village near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand presently. Shri Sajjan Bhajanka, national president of Vanbandhu Parishad, Shri Nandalal Rungta, an industrialist of Jharkhand also spoke on the occasion.
