Lok Jagran Manch of Assam alleged that Bangladeshi intruders in the state had links with Islamic terrorist organisations and the ISI. It criticised the Union and the Assam governments for patronising the intruders for electoral gains. The Manch expressed its concern over the increasing Muslim population in Assam.
RSS activists and the member of the Manch, Professor Shankar Das and former senior police officer Shri Manvendra Rai from Assam told reporters in Dehradun recently that the intruders in Assam were not only posing a threat to that state but also the entire country. They alleged that Bangladeshis had joined hands with ISI to create a network of intruders in the country. According to them, the ISI, Bangladesh and the terrorist organisations were conspiring to create a greater Bangladesh by expanding their network in the neighbouring districts of Assam, Bihar and West Bengal.
Manch leaders criticised the central and the Assam governments for patronising the intruders in order to consolidate their vote banks. They said the Muslim population in Assam had increased manifold. According to the census of 2005, the Muslim population in the state is 33 per cent, which was 24.68 per cent in 1951. Citing the example of the increased Muslim population, the Manch leaders said out of 23 districts in Assam, 7 districts including Barpeta, Gwalpara and Morigaon had a majority of Muslims.
Presenting the statistics, they revealed that West Bengal has 79 lakh, Bihar 4.7 lakh, and Delhi has 3.7 lakh intruders presently. They had also illegally entered Chennai, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Gujarat. They pointed out that no firm measures were being taken by the Centre to check intrusion.
