Former Union HRD Minister and senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has stressed the need to understand and study the Indian culture deeply. ?The foundation of Indian culture is spirituality while the western culture is based on consumerism. We are part of a larger family, which must be protected. In this system we all are dependent on each other. We can survive only with helping each other,? he said. Dr Joshi was speaking at a seminar organised by the Intellectual Cell of BJP at Vishwa Samvad Kendra in Varanasi on February 5. Prof. Vashistha Tripathi presided over the seminar.

He further said the two major philosophies of the world?socialism and capitalism?have collapsed and there is a discussion going on all over the world who is happy today. In this race we too are blindly following the West for becoming rich due to mental slavery. He expressed concern over the declining production of foodgrains. ?Today even hunger has been politicised and nobody is thinking about the increase of foodgrain production. We have the foodgrain to feed even the double of the population but in such a situation too our farmers are committing suicide,? he said further adding that the cultural invasion is adversely affecting economic, political and social system.

Initiating the discussion, Shri Kaushal Kishor Pandey said today'spolitics does not think about the poor. Dr Udai Pratap Singh of Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad stressed the need to protect the traditional culture of the country. Dr Renu Shrivastava, vice principal of Basant Women College, said what is going on in Maharashtra today in the name of region is also cultural invasion. Dr Kameshwar Upadhyaya, national convener of Akhil Bharatiya Vidwat Parishad, mayor of Varanasi Shri Kaushlendera Singh, Dr Mahendranath Pandey, Prof. Deenbandhu Pandey and Dr Sanjay Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
