Ramakrishna Parama-hansa, Guru of Swami Vivekananda, was an incarnation of God. He himself attained salvation and led a number of people from various walks of life to the path of salvation.
Blessed and pious soul as he was, Ramakrishna was appointed pujari of Goddess Kali at the famous Dakshineshwar temple situated on the bank of Ganga in Kolkata by Rani Rasamani.
Ramakrishna used to swing into a deep trance on hearing the name of Kalimata and while under the trance his face used to shine with divine luster.
Saints and scholars from various walks of life used to throng at Dakshineshwar to obtain the grace and guidance from Ramakrishna.
Bishan was scavenger appointed by Rani Rasamani for cleaning the premises. He used to clean the toilets and drainages and sweep the surrounding area.
Bishan used to watch with singular devotion the puja of Kali being performed by Ramakrishna. He used to hear the discourses, which Ramakrishna did have with saints and scholars in rapt attention even though he did not understand much about the subject matter of discussion.
Being an untouchable Bishan was never allowed to step inside the temple hall.
Once Ramakrishna had just performed puja. At that time Bishan asked Ramakrishna in all humility, ?Sir, can I have darshan of Kalimaa??
?Oh yes. Why not??
?But sir, I am an untouchable.?
?Who says that? You are not an ordinary person. You are servant to the mother of the whole universe.?
Ramakrishna then said, ?Go to the Ganges, have three dips and come back?.
Bishan was overjoyed. He straightway proceeded to the river, had three dips and stood before Ramakrishna.
Ramakrishna then took him straight to the sanctorum and made him sit straight in front of the deity.
Ramakrishna then said, ?You are the son of Kalimata. Kalimata is eager to meet her every child. See the glory of the mother of the universe.?
Having said this, Ramakrishna touched the head of Bishan with his hand. A surge of extreme joy passed through the body of Bishan who suddenly entered into a trance.
Tears went on rolling from the eyes of Bishan. He sat motionless for hours together.
This incident changed the whole context of life of Bishan. Earlier, the job assigned to Bishan was a source of earning livelihood. Now the same job became a matter of extreme pleasure. Bishan performed the job chanting the name of Kalimata with a feeling of pride that he was directly serving the mother of universe.
When the last moment of anybody'slife arises, an ordinary person gets horrified. He fears death. He craves for life. He cries and goes on remembering his dear ones, money and so many earthly things.
However, when the last moment of Bishan'slife arose, he was extremely happy. Tears of joy rolled down his eyes. He said loudly, ?Oh dear mother you have fulfilled the promise you had given to me. You have arrived at my doorsteps at long last. Nobody is so fortunate as I am. I have gained what I had hankered for in my life.?
Bishan further addressed to the members of his family in all earnestness and said, ?See, see Mother has come. Wash her feet, offer her a pious seat. Offer at her feet the flowers and all the choicest things we do have. After all these things belonged to her and in all her kindness she had passed on them to us.?
Uttering these words and with a sense of fulfillment manifesting on his face and limbs Bishan breathed his last.
Friends, only the blessed souls are gifted with such last moment of their life sanctified. Bishan, the scavenger, did have it with the grace from Ramakrishna.
