People in Varanasi celebrated Raksha Bandhan as Ram Sethu Raksha Diwas and resolved to protect it till their last breath. They tied the raksha sutras to each other and resolved to save the Sethu. The function was part of the countrywide appeal made by the Ram Sethu Raksha Manch. Speaking on the occasion Shri Indresh Kumar, National Executive Member of RSS, said America does not want India to protect its deposits of thorium so that it could not become self-dependent on the front of nuclear energy. Shri M.D. Nalapat, geologist in Manipal University, said the destruction of thorium deposits would be a major setback for the nuclear schemes of India. Prof. Adya Prasad Mishra, former Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Veda Vishwavidyalaya, Prof. Devendra Pratap Singh, former Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University and Vibhag Sanghachalak Dr Ramesh Kumar were also present on the occasion.  (By Loknath)
