The great war of Mahabharata was in full swing. It was a horrible scene of roars, pains and the dance of death. The swords were dangling and the warriors were in no mood to retreat.

The ace archer Arjuna was exchanging arrows with all the skills at his command. Lord Krishna was holding the reins of the chariot, which was driven by four white sturdy horses.

All of a sudden Lord Krishna noticed that foam was trickling from the mouth of one of the horses. He recognised that the horse was thirsty. So he immediately rose over the platform of the chariot. He stood erect. He held his right hand high. And surprisingly the whole scene was changed. The swords stopped dangling. The warriors, the elephants, the horses?everybody stopped its movement and stood like an idol. There was a complete silence and the battlefield was transformed almost into a mute picture.

Lord Krishna stepped down. He patted the horses and fetched water to feed the horses. He then rose over the chariot. He stood erect once again over the chariot-platform and raised his hand. With this signal, the mute picture was quickly transformed into a horrible active battlefield, as before.

Arjuna was surprised over this miraculous phenomenon. He asked Lord Krishna, ?How is it that with the simple hand-signal from a charioteer like you the whole furious battlefield was turned into a calm and quiet scene??

Lord Krishna smiled and said, ?See, God has given every individual a different mind. This individual mind is granted full freedom to function. Besides this individual mind, there is a huge and all-pervasive mind called cosmic mind. This cosmic mind affects the individual mind in a minutest way. An individual can destroy all his individual desires. If he does so, the individual mind vanishes. The individual then functions according to dictates of the cosmic mind. A person whose individual mind has so vanished completely, automatically assumes the function of cosmic mind. In this state an individual can do all the actions, which an ordinary person considers miraculous. Such glorified person can stop the battle with the wink of his eyelids. He can even stop the movements of stars and planets.?

Little friends, the ways of cosmic mind are miraculous and strange. It is this mind which creates sufficient percentage of artists, scientists, pleaders, doctors, leaders and even saints in each generation for the needs and welfare of each generation.
