There are hundreds of inspirational books, with authors preaching lifestyles and life techniques. All these books are good in their own way and do influence the lives of the readers in one way or the other. However, they do have their limitation, as by the end of the book, the readers get confused about how such a thing could work for everyone.
What is new with this book? The very fact that the book had two reprints in a span of three years does tell the popularity of this book. One immediate reason could be the author himself, who rose to fame during the tenure of Narasimha Rao Government, and one way or the other has maintained his public stature in innumerable news channels everytime when there is a issue on police administration or good governance. Another reason could be that people always look for ideas and look at successful persons for ideas.
This book has created a niche for itself among inspirational books as it is for ordinary people to excel in their ordinary lives. It is not something which tells one how to be a good businessman or a good administrator or a good policeman or a good bureaucrat. It just provides one how to win a game without being extraordinary. The only message that comes out from each paragraph is that persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
In the book, the author speaks to a diverse section of people. It can also be said that the author speaks to a diverse personalities of each person. In the first chapter, he talks to himself on how to set and follow the rules of the game. The most important rule is that we should assume responsibility for ourselves. The second chapter, Grow Rich, as title denotes, springs a philosophy of ?save first, spend what is left?. The chapter provides a diverse examples, including tax planning as part of a wealth plan for everyone. The third and fourth chapters provide the tips in team building, especially a treatise on how to motivate the employees. The fifth and sixth chapters give the message of the significance of ?self? to success. The author says in clear terms to feel terrific about oneself.
While the book has a lot to convey, at the end of the day, there is little readers can expect from the book, for the recipe for success can hardly be learnt from successful people. As the author says, one has to devise success for oneself. It will be a good traveler'scollection, anyway.
