The sports competitions held in 16 tehsils of Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan to promote indigenous games proved a unique experiment for local people. A total of 5,038 players in 439 teams participated in various competitions including kho-kho, kabaddi, etc. held at 327 places. About 300 umpires also contributed in the competitions, which were held as part of Shri Guruji'sbirth centenary year celebrations. In the beginning, competitions were held at tehsil-level. The inaugural and concluding ceremonies of the competitions were held with great enthusiasm and various social, religious and political leaders participated in the events. After the tehsil-level competitions, vibhag-level competitions were held at Ramlila Grounds of Sriganganagar, which was inaugurated by Smt. Vinita Thakur, Superintendent of Police of the city. The concluding ceremony was presided over by Shri Karan Singh, Additional District Magistrate. Shri Madan Lal Bissa, the Everest mountaineer who came from Bikaner was the special attraction of the event. Shri Bissa demonstrated parasailing on the occasion. Shri Jaswant Khatri, Sah Prant Karyavah of Jodhpur addressed the gathering. Every player was granted a certificate and a picture of Shri Guruji. The wining and runner-up teams were also honoured accordingly. (FOC)
