Long before Pope John Paul II gave a clarion call for harvesting of souls and planting of Crosses across Asia, the Christian Church in Kerala has been doing the very same, with the Christian population estimated at around 23 per cent of the 3.25 crore population in this tiny state which hardly occupies 1 per cent of India'sland area. This is not taking into account the 7 to 8 per cent crypto-Christians, who are actually practising Christianity but retaining their Hindu identity, to enjoy the reservation benefits for backward Hindus.
Earlier it was the organised Churches like Roman Catholics, Syrian, Jacobites, Protestants etc. who indulged in conversion, taking advance of the poverty of Hindus. There are Bishops in Kerala who claim that their ancestors were High Caste Nampoothiris and that they were converted to Christianity by Saint Thomas. This claim is highly disputable since arrival of St. Thomas to Kerala is not factually authenticated and why should Nampoothiris who enjoyed everything, due to their high stature, should convert to an alien religion? The ground reality in Kerala is that the supposedly majority Hindus are at the economic mercy of the Christians who control the landed properties, commercial establishments, financial transactions in almost entire South Kerala, the north being in control of the 22 per cent Muslim population. The entire forest area of Kerala, except in parts of Malabar are under the control of Christian encroachers, who have been allotted ownership ?Pattas?. Ganja cultivation and illicit liquor have made them immensely rich. The liquor barons who are the effective rulers whether the left or the Congress comes to power are from the Christian Community. The sex rackets thriving in Kerala have also a alleged link to the Christian community. Innumerable are the cases of poor Christian girls who are forced to become ?nuns? due to poverty in their houses, being sexually exploited by the priests, murdered and thrown into wells, the latest being the case of sister Abhaya which is under CBI probe.
Now conversion has been taken over by the Pentecostal churches who have established shops in every nook and corner of Kerala. Crores and crores of foreign money is being pumped in by them for conversion of almost entire 30 per cent of the Hindu population, who are SC and ST. Bible conventions, miracle curing, treatment for drugs and alcohol addicts, meditation centre for depressed persons, arranging loans under government and NGO schemes are some of the allurements they use for converting the innocents. In order to humiliate the Hindus, neo converts are made to organise the Bible conventions and denigrade and mock Hindu gods. In total violation of VISA restrictions foreign missionaries come to Kerala as tourists and address Bible conventions, where they insult Hindu gods. This has led to serious communal problem in several places. Two years back an American evangelist, Cooper was beaten blue and black by the Hindus in rural Thiruvananthapuram when insulted Hindu gods. The pseudo-secular congress government arrested local RSS Cadres and let the evangelist go scot free. Similarly a month back another U.S. evangelist David Terrell, was prevented from addressing a bible convention by RSS-VHP cadres and forced to go back home.
Now in a landmark judgement Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair of Kerala High Court has ordered the state government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into various charges including sexual exploitation of men, women, rapes and murders at Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, Irinjalakuda, in Thrissur district. The Justice has ordered that the SIT should be constituted in two weeks and that foreign exchange violations and all unnatural deaths that took place around that area during the past two years should be probed.
The judgement was based on a letter which a woman lodged at Kozhikode Jail had sent to the High Court. In it she had stated that she was raped by a Christian priest at the centre and when she protested, a case of theft was lodged against her and she was jailed. Her case of rape was not even registered due to the powerful influence, the centre has with politicians and officials. She had also alleged that in the past two years several dead bodies were found on the railway tracks and on the national highway near the centre and that the deaths were all un-natural. She also had stated that most of these bodies were buried in public grounds and when the keeper of the public burial ground objected to bringing dead bodies with injuries, he was found dead in mysterious circumstances. She had stated that she is witness to several women being sexually exploited and raped.
The court ordered the state government to post a IPS official of the rank of IG to head the SIT since several IAS, IPS and political leaders were associated with the centre. The court also ordered the SIT to use hi-tech methods like polygraph test, brain mapping and DNA finger printing in the probe. It finally ordered preliminary report within a month.
This judgement is a severe blow to the Muringoor centre which has converted that area into a huge township with hundreds of high-rise buildings etc. Lakhs of people visit the centre and such is the political clout that it has built a railway station and trains are made to stop there. For quite time Hindu organisations and magazines like ?Crime? have been highlighting the murky activities going on in this centre in the name of ?Dhyanam?.
Let us hope that this landmark judgment will bring out truth going on in these nefarious centres in the name of Christianity.
