Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and saints have taken the issue of stopping free flow of the Ganga in Uttaranchal very seriously and a massive agitation is being planned in Varanasi, Prayag and Haridwar. Strongly reacting to the blockage of free flow of the Ganga, VHP president Shri Ashok Singhal, while addressing a massive gathering of VHP workers in Ayodhya on November 9, said the repeated attempts to play with the sentiments of Hindus would not be allowed. He said the VHP still opposed the construction of Tehri Dam and felt that it was not in the interest of the country. He said the free flow of the holy river had been stopped and the claims by the Uttaranchal government that the flow of the river had not been stopped were misleading.

Shri Singhal also called upon the Hindu youth to be ready for more sacrifice for Shri Ramjanmabhoomi. He said the re-construction of the temple would begin soon. ?The saints would work out the detailed plan for the temple at the Kendriya Margdarshan Mandal meeting to be held in Haridwar soon,? he said, pointing out that the work of stone carving had almost been completed and the work for the reconstruction would soon be completed. Shri Champat Rai, joint general secretary of VHP, and Mahant Gopaldas of Sachachashram, Prayag, also addressed the workers.
