King of melodies:
The article By Shri M.V. Kamath on the great legendary personalities, the late K.L. Saigal and the late Pankaj Mullick, was excellent (Organiser, 12-6-2005). I convey my hearty congratulations to the writer for his vivid descriptions on their unique talents. As a Telugu man, I am proud that our great music director, the late S. Rajeswarrao had learnt Hindustani music under the tutelage of K.L. Saigal and Pankaj Mullick had visited Dowleswaram, a nearby village of Rajahmundry, in 1964. We still enjoy the old melodies of K.L Saigal and Pankaj Mullick. Why cannot you spare some space for music and drama also in your esteemed weekly?

Real culprits:
Apropos of Revered for his patriotism and foresight (Organiser, 10-4-2005); I express my heart-felt thanks to Shri B.C. Dutta for disclosure of some historical hard facts and truths, which may be useful to counter the Congress-Communist-led campaign to vilify Veer Savarkar and BJP/RSS. I feel raising a few points. Are not the Congress and the Communists responsible for their collaborating role?falling in line with the Muslim League to execute the British master plan of Partition of India on Hindu-Muslim line? Do they not stand condemned for violation of human rights of worst form surpassing any war crime by cheating, deceiving and ruining political, economical, social life of both Hindus and Muslims?

?Subodh Chandra Dutta, P 84 B, CIT, SCM VIM, Kolkata

Eliminate doubts:
Apropos of Fringe benefit tax and tax reforms (Organiser, 29-5-2005); the recently introduced fringe benefit tax is actually a new concept taxing the taxpayers. Hence, innumerable doubts and problems are cropping up day by day. It is suggested that the Central Board of Direct Taxes should come out with a very exhaustive circular whereby various problems concerning the fringe benefit tax are addressed with reference to a question-answer session on those problems. It may be recalled here that a decade ago similar problem was there with reference to Tax Deduction at Source. The CBDT at that time had come out with a series of exhaustive circulars. Those circulars even till date continue as guide in the process of TDS compliance. If the government comes out with such an exhaustive circular addressing various facets of fringe benefit tax, then it is expected that many controversial problems would come to an end.

Serve the society:
I watch Astha channel on Hindu spirituality in Kenya and am very impressed with our holy men and the knowledge they impart. The spiritual leaders have very large following and I feel this force can be used to awaken the Hindus. But they very rarely talk about the threat to our faith or way of life. Realities must be faced and discussed openly by the Hindus. It should be of concern to everyone. I feel that our holy men, using this workforce, should also do more service to the society?build more schools, old-age homes, orphanages, hospitals, feed the hungry and serve the society. Spiritual nourishment is fine, but more important is seva to the society. Along with personal moksha, the moksha of the society is very important.
