The reality-based film Amu shows what actually happened during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Although some dialogues are muted the goggled politician'srole in the riots is clearly evident. Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi should see this movie as it may make her realise the pain of the widows of the 1984 anti-Sikhs riots that left many disturbing questions unanswered. Debut writer-director Shonali Bose has attempted to scratch the surface. There are floating bits of dialogues which tell us that politicians and cops were directly involved in the carnage against the Sikhs. Another recently-released bi-lingual film Des Hoya Pardes has also dwelt on the aftermath of the Sikh riots. Produced by singer Gurdas Maan, the film in Punjabi and English depicts the flight from India of Sikhs who were wrongly accused of anti-national activities after the assassination of the then Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi.
