“I have over 22,000 students all over the world, but Vishnukant is special as he shows unfathomable politeness and devotion to his gurus. He has honoured me by moving ahead in various fields. According to our tradition it is an honour to be defeated by one’s own son and disciple,” said Dr Pratap Chandra Chunder, renowned scholar and former Education Minister during the Morarji Desai government, while honouring Acharya Vishnukant Shastri on his completing 75 years of life in Kolkata on December 12. The function was organised by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya.
Dr Chunder recalled the Emergency period when he along with Vishnukant Shastri and other RSS Swayamsevaks valiantly fought against the Indira Gandhi regime to restore democracy in the country. He said, “Beyond all criticism, the RSS Swayamsevaks are very disciplined and their patriotism is above question.”
Speaking as chief guest, Shri T. N. Chaturvedi, Governor of Karnataka, said that Shastriji has lived his life as per universal values of life. “He has firm determination in his faith, principles and belief. He has the unique quality to express his views with logic. I have found a multifarious personality in him based on a polite approach,” added Shri Chaturvedi.
At his felicitation Acharya Vishnukant Shastri said that whatever he is, it is entirely due to the blessing of his gurus. “The way an artist is praised everywhere for making a beautiful idol, similarly my gurus deserve true appreciation for moulding me,” he said.
