Bunit of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has strongly opposed the proposal by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of imposing professional tax in Delhi and has threatened to take to the streets to oppose any such move. ?The Central Government has increased the service tax by 4 per cent in this budget. The private power companies too have kept their electricity meters fast by over 30 per cent which has resulted in an unprecedented hike in power tariff. There is a move to hike the water tariff up to 250 per cent. Even ground water is going to be taxed. There is a proposal to hike the fare of Delhi Transport Corporation also. Delhiites are already paying so many taxes including sales tax, toll tax, etc. The new professional tax is like jaziya,? said the resolution passed at a meeting in Delhi on November 22.
