Himalaya Parivar organised a seminar in New Delhi to remember the heroes of the first freedom movement of 1857 and also to discuss its significance in today'sperspective. Paying tributes to the freedom fighters, the speakers opined that the movement was not confined to any particular caste or religion but was fought unitedly by the Hindus and Muslims as they were inspired by patriotism. At that time only national feeling was uppermost in their minds. Prominent among those who attended the seminar were senior journalists like Jawaharlal Kaul, Seshadri Chari and Mohammad Afzal of My Hindustan and Dr Tahir, general secretary of Rashtriya Muslim Parishad.

It may be recalled that the 1857 freedom movement was to begin on May 31 of the year but due to extreme dissidence in the army plans the movement got exposed on May 9. According to the convenor of the function, Dayanand Pandey, the Himalaya Parivar decided to celebrate the 147th anniversary of the movement to apprise the countrymen of the patriotic zeal of the participants in the movement. The first function was organised in Lucknow on May 9, followed by the next function in New Delhi on May 31. One more function is scheduled to be held at Constitution Club in New Delhi on June 12 in which RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah-Sampark Pramukh, Indresh Kumar will also participate.

The Himalaya Parivar has also decided to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the historic movement on a grand scale all over the country. By celebrating the 147th anniversary, the ground is being prepared for organising a grand celebration of the 150th anniversary three years from hence.
