In this age of competitive politics, almost every party tries to outdo the other in its attempt to attract voters. If the Congress in its manifesto has all goodies, the Samajwadi Party too has not lagged behind. Sample this: The party has promised to amend the Constitution for providing reservation to Muslims besides Christians, Sikhs and Buddhist Dalits in government jobs and educational institutions. Shedding crocodile tears, the party has mentioned the present poor status of women in society, though easily forgetting the fact that it is the Samajwadi Party that has always been in forefront to oppose the ´Women Reservation Bill´. Surprisingly, POTA did not find any mention in the manifesto though the party sought to cash in on the political detention of political persons under POTA. At the manifesto release function, Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed to make Uttar Pradesh a corruption-free state.
