Remove social evils for speedy development – Bhairon Singh Shekhawat

“It is necessary for the speedy development of society that social evils are done away with immediately. A society regresses due to such evils. The best way to do it is to spread education and education of girls is the best remedy for it. If the woman of the house is educated, the family will also be educated”, said Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. He was inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Rajasthan Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad in Udaipur.

The Vice-President further said that agriculture was imperative for the economic prosperity. “Vanvasis used to produce kattha and gum in abundance which has now almost stopped. It needs to be resumed as it would make the vanvasis economically strong. The aid that comes from the Government of India should also be utilised for better agro-activities. Farmers need to grow crops that bring them maximum price. Growing herbs and medicinal plants can also be a good option”, he said.

Recalling the work done by Govind Guru of Banswara, Shri Shekhawat said that he did a remarkable work for the vanvasis of this region. Anything done sincerely could solve problems, he maintained. Quoting from the Rig Veda, he advised the people to protect the environment and also to worship the tree looking upon it as one’sown son. Praising the work done by the Rajasthan Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, he said that the reason that prevented the birth of terrorism in Rajasthan was the work done by the Parishad. Minister for Public Works in the Rajasthan Government, Gulab Chandra Kataria also participated in the function. Highligh-ting the details of the Golden Jubilee Year, Joint Organising Secre-tary, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram Somayajulu said that during the year contacts would be established with at least 12 lakh families of 50,000 vanvasi villages and one lakh families of about 1000 small towns of the country. There would be more than 500 mass rallies all over the country and in February a grand convention of more than one lakh vanvasis would be held in Ranchi, he pointed out and added that a national convention of Kalyan Ashram activists would be held in New Delhi from April 21 to 25 in which more than 3,500 activists belonging to 321 vanvasi districts would participate.

State Organising Secretary, Vanvasi Kalyan Praishad, Bhagwan Sahay pointed out that the Parishad would establish contact with 3,000 villages during the Golden Jubilee Year. “Apart from other things every vanvasi family will be given carrying pictures of Bharat Mata along with the heroes of vanvasis”, he said. President of Rajasthan Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, Roop Singh Bhil and the Regional Organising Secretary, Sureshrao Kulkarni also spoke on the occasion.
