The historic recital comes as the nation marks 150 years of the national song, which inspired millions during India’s freedom struggle.
The song will be sung upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival at the Red Fort, before he unfurls the national flag and delivers his Independence Day address. As part of the tribute, an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter will also carry a banner commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram and shower flower petals over the gathering.
