A Clarion Call Against Global Hinduphobia: Organizations unite to oppose USCIRF’s anti-India agenda

In a recent research paper, the Foundation has demonstrated, using authentic facts, that the USCIRF’s objections and annual reports are not based on concrete ground-level data but are instead part of a process of "manufactured scrutiny"

The visit of Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak (Chief) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), to the United States in August 2026 has ignited a new ideological battle within geopolitics and the Indian diaspora community. The situation escalated sharply after the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), an advisory body to the US government, vehemently opposed the visit, demanding the imposition of financial and visa sanctions on the Sangh chief and urging the US administration to deny him any form of diplomatic protocol or honor.

While the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of the Government of India has issued an official statement dismissing the USCIRF as entirely lacking credibility and being biased, prominent Hindu organizations active in the US and globally have termed this the latest and most dangerous instance of “Institutional Hinduphobia” taking root in Western nations.

The controversy began when USCIRF’s current Chair, Asif Mahmood and Commissioner Gene Mills openly opposed the grand “Universal Oneness Celebration” scheduled to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York. In response to this opposition, numerous prominent social, cultural, policy-oriented and intellectual organizations from the US, UK, Canada and India have launched a united front at both national and global levels.

These organizations include influential bodies and platforms such as HinduPACT, the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF), the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), the International Minorities Foundation (IMF), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK). Speaking in unison, these organizations have questioned the impartiality of the US commission, describing its actions as driven by a specific anti-India “toolkit” that seeks to maliciously attack India’s democratic credentials, sovereignty and Sanatan Hindu culture from Western soil.

The primary argument put forth by the organizations spearheading this global opposition is that the USCIRF has betrayed its core American mandate to protect religious freedom. In a letter addressed to US lawmakers and Congress, Ajay Shah, founder of the Hindu Pact, stated clearly that the Commission’s current office-bearers have completely lost their impartiality. He asserted that they have become puppets in the hands of anti-India and radical groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC).

Organizations representing the Indian diaspora have made it clear that no government or quasi-government body funded by American taxpayers should be permitted to malign Hinduism, its symbols and its preeminent cultural leaders on global platforms.

On the ideological and academic fronts, the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) has conducted an in-depth review of the entire controversy. In a recent research paper, the Foundation has demonstrated, using authentic facts, that the USCIRF’s objections and annual reports are not based on concrete ground-level data but are instead part of a process of “manufactured scrutiny”.

In fact, the think tank presented the truth to the world that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is neither a political party nor an extremist group, contrary to the narratives propagated by Western media and biased commissions. The RSS is, in reality, the world’s largest voluntary social organization, working selflessly in India’s remote rural and tribal areas in sectors such as education (Vidya Bharati), healthcare (Ekal Vidyalaya), and disaster management (Seva Bharati). Demanding a ban on the head of such a welfare-oriented organization is entirely illogical, absurd and driven by prejudice.

Throughout this episode, the stance taken by India’s Ministry of External Affairs has been remarkably assertive and direct. Casting aside any diplomatic hesitation, Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has effectively held a mirror to the US commission. India has stated unequivocally that the USCIRF has lost all international credibility, having spent years fabricating narratives against India. India has sternly advised the US administration to focus on the rising human rights violations and racial attacks within its own borders, particularly the vandalism of Hindu temples in the US and Canada, where the Indian community faces constant intimidation, rather than pointing fingers at India’s internal affairs or its socio-cultural organizations.

Another significant aspect of the controversy is the activity of a newly formed coalition called ‘Savera’ (Savera Coalition), which released a propaganda report just prior to Mohan Bhagwat’s visit. This ‘toolkit’ campaign seeks to portray the RSS as ‘fascist’ and global symbols of Hinduism as ‘symbols of hate,’ aiming to instill fear regarding Hindus and the Indian diaspora in the minds of ordinary American citizens and policymakers. Exposing this ploy, the International Minorities Foundation (IMF) has termed it a form of cheap politics played in the name of minorities, aimed at disrupting the harmony among India’s diverse communities and challenging the country’s territorial integrity.

Economic and strategic analysts, including Prahlad Sabnani, Rajan Chaturvedi, Ravi Ranjan Singh and HLBS Managing Director Mitesh Lokwani- believe that the real motive behind such sanctions and opposition is to hinder India’s rapid economic growth. At a time when India is emerging as a major alternative in global manufacturing and supply chains, the recommendation to designate it a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC) is a calculated geopolitical move intended to sow doubt in the minds of global investors.

However, the Indian-American community, the most prosperous and influential minority group in the US, has set out to completely dismantle the anti-India narrative. Organizers (AHEAD) of the event at New York’s Madison Square Garden have announced that all seats are already booked due to overwhelming support from the Indian diaspora; this demonstrates that, despite the desperation of the Leftist-Islamic alliance, the Hindu community stands firmly behind its leadership.

Ultimately, the vigorous, fact-based, and organized resistance mounted by these various Indian national and international organizations has rendered USCIRF’s malicious attempt completely irrelevant and unsuccessful on the global stage. In this regard, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) national spokesperson Vinod Bansal says, “India is no longer a nation that remains in a defensive posture; rather, it knows how to defend its sovereignty on equal terms on international platforms. This visit by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat Ji is set to be a resounding success. Furthermore, it will serve as a historic medium to convey the message of India’s cultural unity, pluralism and the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (Universal Oneness) to the Western world.”

VHP national spokesperson Bansal stated, “USCIRF is an organization that harbors deep-seated hatred towards Sanatan Dharma and Hindu society. Consequently, the global Hindu community will no longer bow down to any ‘Hinduphobic’ propaganda”.

He added, “The hatred towards the RSS recently displayed by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), specifically by its Chair Asif Mahmood and Commissioner Nadine Maenza, along with its history of reports consistently targeting India, has proven the extent of its animosity towards India, Hindu Dharma, Indian culture and the nation’s pride. This organization has been exposed before the global community on numerous occasions. It is now time for the US government to put an end to this toxic entity itself”.
