Guwahati: Commonwealth games silver medal winner boxer Lovlina Borgohain made her dissatisfaction publicly after a well-known Indian restaurant in Glasgow displayed India’s map incorrectly. The restaurant’s napkins provided to the India’s Commonwealth Games squad printed with a map of the country that left out the entire Northeast region and some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The muddle came to light during a visit by the Indian contingent to Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry, a Glasgow based restaurant known for hosting sports teams and visiting dignitaries. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who is from Assam, said the map simply erased the Northeast, and made clear that every part of India deserves to be shown correctly anywhere when it is printed or represented for public use.

“Please don’t mind, I don’t find it good. The India map printed in your napkin doesn’t include Northeast. It is outside of your premises also. So next time please make sure that you include each and every part of the country properly”, Lovlina said.

Lovelina was supported by all present there. Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, backed her up and pointed to another problem too — the outline of Jammu & Kashmir wasn’t complete either. He called on the restaurant to pull the napkins and get the map fixed so it properly reflects India’s territory. All other players present there applauded the courageous disappointment of the ace boxer from Northeast.

The Tokyo Olympic Bronze medalist Lovelina Borgohain dedicated her Glasgow Commonwealth Silver medal to the flood affected people of Assam. She said she had a difficult time focusing on her game due to the devastating flood crisis in Assam which includes her home district Golaghat. Lovlina missed the gold in 75 kg category in a close contest against her Australian opponent.

“People back in my home state are badly affected in the devastating flood including my home district Golaghat. I dedicate my Silver Medal to the flood victims of Assam”, she said.

At least 82 persons died and thousands became homeless in the ruinous flood mainly affecting the four upper Assam districts Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat and Jorhat. Over 9 lakhs people were affected by floods and several thousand people are still in the shelter homes counting days to return to their own homes.
