From Operation Sindoor Trauma to Hope: Gauri the calf overcomes Pakistan shelling injuries with ‘Krishna Limb’

Fatehpur: A one-and-a-half-year-old female calf named Gauri, who lost a leg in heavy cross-border shelling by the Pakistan Army in J&K during Operation Sindoor, has been fitted with a prosthetic ‘Krishna Limb’, giving her a renewed chance at life. Her owner, Rajesh, a tea seller from the Fatehpur Samaria post in the RS Pura sector, watched helplessly as shelling on May 20 destroyed his home and left Gauri critically injured.

With border tensions escalating, local veterinarians were reluctant to take up Gauri’s treatment, while persistent heavy rainfall further hampered her recovery.

In a desperate bid to save her, Rajesh sought the help of Dr Tapesh Mathur, a renowned Rajasthan-based veterinarian known for rehabilitating disabled animals across India. Dr Mathur treated Gauri and fitted her with the prosthetic ‘Krishna Limb’, enabling her to walk again and restoring her quality of life.

Following Dr Mathur’s guidance, Rajesh carefully carried out Gauri’s treatment and rehabilitation. Today, her remarkable recovery stands as a symbol of resilience and hope for disabled animals living in India’s border regions.

Dr Tapesh Mathur spent 11 years developing the ‘Krishna Limb’, a prosthetic that has restored mobility to more than 500 animals—including cows, horses, buffaloes, goats, rabbits and birds—across 22 states in India.

His pioneering work has earned him several prestigious honours, including the Sant Eshwar Samman, the Rajasthan State Award of Merit, and the Times Now ‘Amazing Indian’ Award, presented this year by Union Cabinet Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

In May this year, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor to target terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoK) following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of them tourists. In retaliation, Pakistan carried out heavy cross-border shelling, causing extensive damage to civilian homes and infrastructure in several villages along the border.
