‘Injuries to Private Parts, Bite Marks’: Autopsy Exposes Brutal Sexual Assault and Murder

In a crime that has shocked the conscience of the state, the postmortem examination of a minor girl allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur has revealed chilling evidence of sexual assault, including injuries to her private parts, multiple bite marks on her body, and a fatal head injury caused by a heavy object or impact with a hard surface. The report further indicates that the 12-year-old was likely alive when she was thrown into the pond, as water was found accumulated in her lungs and stomach.

According to the autopsy findings reported by media and police sources, the victim died due to excessive bleeding from the head injury combined with drowning. The gruesome details have intensified public anger and raised serious questions about the safety of children, especially girls, in the region.

The minor girl went missing on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Her body was recovered the next day, Sunday, July 5, from a pond near her home in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. The horrific discovery triggered immediate outrage among locals, leading to the lynching of a man suspected of involvement in the crime.

Police promptly registered an FIR and launched an investigation. A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted on Sunday itself to handle the sensitive case. As of Monday, July 6, three persons have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder, while additional individuals have been detained for questioning. Authorities have registered four FIRs covering the rape-murder and the subsequent lynching incident.

Investigators are closely examining CCTV footage from the area that reportedly shows four individuals taking the 12-year-old girl away. Police are working to identify all suspects and establish their roles in the heinous crime.

A senior police officer was quoted as saying: “The investigation is at a crucial stage. We are examining all evidence. The preliminary post-mortem findings are being corroborated with other material collected during the probe.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari personally spoke to the victim’s father and assured him that the culprits would be arrested and brought to justice swiftly. The Chief Minister also stated that the government would ensure capital punishment is awarded to those found guilty.

The victim’s father reportedly demanded the death penalty for the accused during the conversation. CM Adhikari’s intervention comes amid mounting public pressure and criticism of the law and order situation in the state.

To prevent further unrest, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita have been imposed in parts of Baruipur and surrounding areas. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain peace.

Protesters damaged a police vehicle during demonstrations following the recovery of the body, highlighting the deep sense of anger and distrust among residents.

This incident adds to the growing concern over rising crimes against women and children in West Bengal. The brutal nature of the assault marked by sexual violence, physical torture, and the dumping of the victim while she was possibly still alive has drawn widespread condemnation across political lines and civil society.
