Melbourne: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a three nation visit encircling the Indo-Pacific region, he has received death threats via social media platforms from Melbourne. The Australia police continue the probe and have issued stern warning to a young man. Meanwhile, the security officials have also heightened the security ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the island continent.
The death threat to PM Modi was circulated via online platforms. According to reports by Australia Today, the threat was posted in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the community event “Melbourne Needs Modi”, scheduled to be held at Marvel Stadium on July 9. The post allegedly warned that the Prime Minister would come to Australia “for his death”. As per the sources, the FaceBook comment posted by a young man read, “The roof tops of the stadium better close during the event or he will be coming to Australia for his death”.
As per the investigations of the Australia Police, a young man is said to be the culprit behind the death threat. Thus, the police have issued a stern warning to the person who posted dreadful comments. However, the security officials reiterated that there is no risk or evident security threat to the community event and it will take place as per the schedule amidst enhanced security protocols. The police also reiterated that any suspected criminal behaviour including threats and harassment would be taken seriously and investigated.
“The AFP takes the safety and security of federal parliamentarians, high office holders and international dignitaries seriously”, the Australian Federal Police(AFP), further reiterated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Australia from July 8 to 10, as a part of his three nation visit in the Indo-Pacific region, which also includes Indonesia and New Zealand. Prime Minister in his departure statement reiterated that the visit aligns with the Act East policy and MAHASAGAR vision of New Delhi and will further invigorate the Indo-Pacific strategy of the country. The nations have always championed free, open, inclusive and rule-based Indo-Pacific. PM Modi is set to hold bilateral discussions with his Australian counterpart, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The meeting is aimed to strengthen and further accelerate the comprehensive strategic partnership between New Delhi and Canberra.
“At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, I will travel to Melbourne. My visit will strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and I shall in my discussions with Prime Minister Albanese, take forward our relations in the areas of defence and security, trade and investments, education and mobility and people-to-people ties. In Melbourne, I will have the opportunity to interact with the Indian diaspora which is an important pillar of our strategic partnership. Further, this visit will also provide an opportunity for India and Australia to deepen our bilateral ties in the areas of emerging and critical technologies, sports and sports science”, Prime Minister departure statement further added.
