Indian Army personnel have apprehended a Pakistani national who crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Sunday.
The individual, identified as Rayees Khan, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), was taken into custody from the Balakote sector shortly after he entered Indian territory.
Officials said no incriminating material was recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest.
The man is currently being questioned by security agencies to ascertain the circumstances behind his border crossing, his intentions and whether he had any contacts or objectives on the Indian side.
Security officials noted that this is the third such incident reported along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir during June.
Earlier this month, 26-year-old Mohammad Sajad was arrested after allegedly crossing into India through the Gulpur area of the Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district.
In another case reported on June 9, a 14-year-old boy identified as Javid Ali was detained after crossing the border. Following verification procedures, he was handed back to Pakistani authorities a week later.
The latest incident has once again drawn attention to recurring attempts by individuals to cross the heavily guarded border.
Officials said investigators are examining whether the latest border crossing was accidental or deliberate.
Security agencies are also trying to determine whether the Pakistani national had any links to cross-border networks or was acting independently.
His interrogation is expected to focus on his travel route, possible contacts and the purpose of entering Indian territory.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any formal charges have been filed against him pending the outcome of the investigation.
The apprehension in Poonch comes at a time when security forces remain on high alert along the International Border and the LoC.
According to officials, a suspected Pakistani drone briefly entered Indian airspace near village Nundpur in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district early Sunday morning.
The drone was reportedly seen hovering over the area before disappearing.
Following the sighting, the Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a coordinated search operation in the surrounding region.
Security personnel combed the area to verify whether any weapons, explosives or narcotics had been dropped from the drone.
Officials later said that nothing suspicious or incriminating was recovered during the search operation.
The incidents come amid continued security concerns along the India-Pakistan border, where agencies remain alert to infiltration attempts, drone intrusions and cross-border smuggling activities.
Security forces have repeatedly intercepted drones suspected of being used to transport narcotics, weapons and other contraband into Indian territory.
Officials said surveillance and monitoring along both the Line of Control and the International Border have been intensified to prevent infiltration and ensure border security.
Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions between the two countries also remained in focus.
India on Sunday rejected Pakistan’s allegations linking it to a recent militant attack on a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi, describing the claims as “baseless”.
The response came after Pakistani security forces claimed they had foiled an attack on a Rangers compound in Karachi following a gun battle that reportedly lasted around 90 minutes.
New Delhi urged Islamabad to focus on dismantling terrorist infrastructure operating from its own territory instead of making what it termed unfounded allegations.
