A highly sensitive case involving the misuse of technology and alleged disrespect towards religious beliefs has emerged on social media in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. A Facebook page titled ‘From Heaven to Earth’, operated by a Christian organisation, has allegedly uploaded objectionable and controversial videos featuring Hindu deities, triggering widespread outrage among Hindu organisations.
According to the allegations, the videos and images, created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, depict Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu referring to Jesus Christ as their father. In addition, one video purportedly shows Jesus preaching to Lord Ram, while another portrays Lord Hanuman describing Jesus Christ as the most powerful.
Several such videos are reportedly available on the Facebook page, allegedly attempting to portray Jesus Christ as superior to Hindu deities. Following growing protests over the matter, the Civil Lines Police Station has registered an FIR against unidentified persons and launched an investigation. Bajrang Dal, Ram Bhakt Sena and members of the Sant Samaj have described the content as an attack on religious sentiments and have demanded stringent action against those responsible.
Bajrang Dal demands immediate action
Bajrang Dal president Ravi Wadhwani issued the strongest response in the matter. He alleged that AI technology had been misused on social media to insult Hindu deities, something that could not be accepted under any circumstances. He demanded the immediate removal of the disputed content from all social media platforms and called for strict legal action against the administrators of the Facebook page and all those involved in creating, uploading and circulating the content, under provisions relating to disturbing communal harmony and hurting religious sentiments. Wadhwani said that if such incidents were not dealt with firmly, the misuse of social media to spread social discord could increase in the future. He urged the administration to take swift action.
Ram Bhakt Sena and Hindu organisations stage protest
Following the controversy, activists from Ram Bhakt Sena and several other Hindu organisations reached the Civil Lines Police Station. They submitted a memorandum to the police demanding the registration of an FIR against those operating the Facebook page and calling for an impartial investigation. During the protest, the activists raised slogans, stating that interference with the religious beliefs of any faith would not be tolerated.
The organisations unanimously stated that the viral videos not only hurt religious sentiments but also had the potential to create confusion and communal tension in society. They demanded a comprehensive cyber and technical investigation into the entire matter.
Sant Samaj issues warning
Dr Swami Rajeshwaranand, head of Shri Sureshwar Mahadev Peeth in Raipur, also described the matter as serious. He said that if anyone had deliberately created and circulated such videos with the intention of provoking religious sentiments or creating social unrest, strict legal action should be taken against them. He warned that such acts would not be accepted by society and urged the administration to ensure exemplary action against those found responsible.
Police action: FIR registered, cyber cell begins investigation
Following complaints from Hindu organisations, the Civil Lines Police Station in Raipur registered an FIR against unidentified persons. According to Station House Officer Yaman Devangan, the police are examining the viral videos, the Facebook page concerned and efforts are underway to identify those operating it. The cyber cell is conducting a technical investigation to determine who created the videos, from which IP addresses they were uploaded, and what their original source is.
Responsibility to be determined after investigation
The entire matter is currently under investigation by the police and the cyber cell. So far, neither the Facebook page concerned nor its operators have issued any official response. Only after the investigation is completed will it be established who created the videos, what their intention was, and whether the content in question falls within the scope of offences relating to hurting religious sentiments or promoting enmity under Indian law. Meanwhile, Hindu organisations have made it clear that they will continue to pursue the matter and maintain their protest until strict action is taken against those found responsible.
