Jyoti Gulia won India’s only gold medal at the World Boxing Cup 2026 in Guiyang, the People’s Republic of China.

She defeated World Boxing Cup Brazil gold medallist Farzona Fozilova of Uzbekistan by unanimous decision in the women’s 48kg final.

Indian boxers also won three silver medals, with Minakshi Hooda settling for second place in the women’s 51kg category after a 5-0 loss to reigning Olympic champion and home favourite Wu Yu in the final.

The world No. 1 in the 48kg division, Minakshi was competing in a new boxing weight class above her usual category. She did beat the reigning 51kg world champion Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan in the quarters en route to the final.

Prachi (women’s 57kg) also finished with a silver medal, losing 5-0 to Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova in her title bout following an impressive run that saw her defeat Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medallist Wu Shih-yi of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals.

In the men’s category, Deepak Poonia (70kg) secured a silver medal after a 5-0 loss to Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov in the final.

None of the Indian boxers selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games were in action in China.
