A major controversy erupted after videos from an Annual Day function at a school in Partur, Jalna, allegedly showed students performing with toy swords to a Pakistani song while an image of Pakistani assassin Mumtaz Qadri was reportedly displayed in the background. The incident has sparked outrage, prompting a police inquiry and raising serious concerns about the use of radical symbolism in educational institutions

Jalna: The incident at Kids World English School in Partur, Jalna, has triggered widespread outrage after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed students performing on a Pakistani song associated with the glorification of blasphemy-related violence, while an image purportedly depicting Pakistani extremist Mumtaz Qadri was displayed in the background. The controversy has raised serious questions about the content being presented to children in educational institutions and the responsibilities of school authorities in ensuring that school events remain free from any form of radical or extremist messaging.

School function sparks controversy

According to reports and viral videos, children participating in the school’s Annual Day programme were seen dancing with dummy swords to the Pakistani song “Gustakh Nabi Ki Ek Saza…”, a slogan-linked song that has been associated with extremist narratives in Pakistan. Social media users further alleged that a photograph of Mumtaz Qadri was prominently displayed during the performance.

Mumtaz Qadri was a Pakistani police commando who assassinated Punjab Governor Salman Taseer in 2011 after Taseer publicly supported Asia Bibi, a Christian woman accused under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws. Qadri was later convicted and executed by Pakistani authorities in 2016. Despite this, he continues to be glorified by certain radical groups in Pakistan.

The appearance of such imagery and messaging in an Indian school programme has generated intense criticism from citizens, education activists, and social commentators, who argue that educational institutions should promote constitutional values, social harmony, and critical thinking rather than content that could be interpreted as endorsing extremism.

Police inquiry underway

Following the circulation of the videos, police reportedly began questioning school manager Tariq Siddiqui. Authorities are examining the circumstances under which the performance was organised, who approved the programme, and whether any laws were violated.

Reports also claim that the school’s YouTube channel, which allegedly hosted videos of annual functions and other events, was removed after the controversy gained traction online. However, videos and screen recordings continue to circulate on social media platforms, prompting demands for a thorough investigation.

The controversy has reignited concerns about the influence of ideological and religious radicalisation on young minds. Schools occupy a unique position in society, serving not merely as centres of academic instruction but also as institutions responsible for shaping values, citizenship, and social responsibility.
